Avoca is an AI customer service rep built for home-service and auto repair companies. It answers calls, texts and web chats around the clock, books jobs straight onto a ServiceTitan board, routes emergencies to the on-call tech and scores calls for managers. As of November 2026 Avoca publishes no prices, so every plan is quoted after a demo.
This review is written for owners and office managers of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, roofing, pest control and auto repair shops. Everything below about Avoca's features and integrations comes from Avoca's own site, checked in November 2026. Where Avoca's pages are silent on something, we say so instead of guessing.
What is Avoca?
Avoca (also called Avoca AI) is an AI front office for service businesses: software agents that answer inbound calls, texts and chats, book the job, and hand hard calls to your team with the context attached. It is sold to the trades, not to every kind of small business.
The product line on Avoca's site, as of November 2026:
- AI CSR: answers inbound calls, texts and chats 24/7 and books jobs.
- Simple Scheduler and Web Chat: self-service booking and chat on your website.
- Speed-to-Lead: responds to new leads from each lead source.
- Outbound Campaigns: re-engages past customers.
- Google LSA: a direct integration with Local Services Ads.
- Coach and Analytics: call scoring for your human CSRs and reporting in one place.
The industries Avoca lists are HVAC, plumbing, pest control, home improvement, roofing, garage door, energy and fuel delivery, auto repair (with a separate dealership page), junk removal, movers, electrical and restoration. The site also announces a $125M Series B at a $1B valuation, says Avoca is SOC 2 certified, and claims more than 1,000 service leaders as customers. Those are the company's own statements.
How much does Avoca cost?
Avoca does not publish pricing. When we checked in November 2026, there was no pricing page on avoca.ai, and every call to action led to a request for a 30-minute demo. You will only get a number from Avoca's sales team.
You will find price estimates for Avoca on other websites. The ones we saw were published by competing vendors and did not cite Avoca, so we are not repeating them here. Treat any figure you read that way as a guess until you have a written quote.
Because the price is a quote, the questions you ask on the demo decide whether you can compare it fairly with a published-price service:
| Ask Avoca | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| What is the billing unit: per minute, per call, per booked job, or a flat platform fee? | A storm week or a heat wave is when the AI earns its keep, and also when a usage bill is highest. |
| Is there a minimum term, a setup fee or an onboarding fee? | Self-serve tools like Upfirst run month to month; an annual contract changes the risk. |
| Are spam calls, hang-ups and wrong numbers billed? | Some published-price services exclude them, so check before you compare per-call cost. |
| Are Coach, Outbound Campaigns, Web Chat and the human backup priced separately? | The demo usually shows the full product; the quote may not include all of it. |
| Which of my systems does it write to, and what exactly does it write? | Booking onto the board is the value. A message in an inbox is not the same thing. |
What does Avoca do for a home-service business?
Avoca's core job is to answer the call, work out what the caller needs, and book it into your field service software in the same conversation, with emergencies sent to the on-call tech. What sets it apart from a generic AI receptionist is how much it reads from your system before it talks.
| Feature | What Avoca's site says | What to check on the demo |
|---|---|---|
| Inbound calls, texts, chat | One conversation, no phone menu; it identifies the issue, handles objections and books the job, 24/7 | Run your three hardest call types live, not the demo script |
| Caller recognition | Pulls up past jobs, equipment and membership tier before the caller finishes speaking | Whether that works in your system or only in ServiceTitan |
| Emergencies | Routes emergency calls to your on-call tech immediately | Where the on-call schedule lives and who keeps it current |
| Handoff to a person | Passes the caller, need, equipment and tone to your CSR | Who gets the transfer at 2 a.m. if nobody is in the office |
| ServiceTitan | Certified app; books directly onto the board with name, address, service type and notes, and matches existing customers to cut duplicates | The integration page does not mention memberships or arrival windows |
| Other systems | Housecall Pro and FieldRoutes on the homepage; Tekmetric, Shop-Ware and Mitchell 1 on the auto repair page | Jobber and Shopmonkey are not named on the pages we checked |
| AI disclosure | Whether callers are told they are speaking with AI is left to the business | Decide your policy before launch; we recommend telling callers |
Avoca's pages also cite booking-rate gains, sub-30-second booking times and customer results such as consolidated contact centers. Those numbers are Avoca's and its customers' own. Ask for two references running your field software at your size, and ask to hear real call recordings.
Avoca for auto repair shops
The auto repair page lists the AI receptionist, speed-to-lead for sources such as CARFAX, Google LSA and missed calls, a hybrid option that transfers to Avoca's human receptionists when the AI cannot handle a call, and outbound follow-up on unsold estimates, missed appointments and lapsed maintenance plans. It says Avoca books into Tekmetric, Shop-Ware and Mitchell 1. If you run Tekmetric, our Tekmetric AI integration guide covers what the Tekmetric API exposes to any outside agent.
Who is Avoca a good fit for, and who should skip it?
Avoca fits multi-truck operations with real call volume, a CSR team to coach and ServiceTitan (or another named system) as the record. It is a poor fit for a small shop that wants a price today and a setup it can finish itself on a Sunday night.
| Your situation | Avoca? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 15+ trucks on ServiceTitan with two or more CSRs | Strong candidate | Certified ServiceTitan app, plus Coach and Analytics built for a team |
| Multi-brand or multi-location group | Strong candidate | The customer stories on the site are mostly larger operators |
| Auto repair on Tekmetric, Shop-Ware or Mitchell 1 | Worth a demo | Named integrations and a hybrid human option |
| Jobber or Shopmonkey shop | Ask first | Not named on Avoca's pages as of November 2026 |
| 1 to 5 trucks, owner answers most calls | Probably not | Quote-only, demo-led buying; self-serve tools start at $24.95 a month |
| You want to compare prices before any sales call | No | No public price list |
Where does Avoca fall short?
The main limits are price transparency, thin public detail on integrations other than ServiceTitan, and performance numbers that mostly come from Avoca itself.
- No public pricing. You cannot work out cost per call against Upfirst or Smith.ai without going through sales.
- ServiceTitan is the documented integration. Housecall Pro, FieldRoutes and the auto systems are named, but the detail on what Avoca reads and writes is on the ServiceTitan page only.
- Vendor-reported results. Treat booking-rate and revenue claims as marketing until you hear your own calls.
- Your rules still have to be right. An AI CSR follows the service area, dispatch fee, emergency words and on-call schedule you give it. If those live in someone's head, write them down first; our safety word list is a starting point for emergency triggers.
- The phone is one part of the job. Avoca books the call. It does not check that the job was costed right, invoiced or paid.
What are the best Avoca alternatives?
The three alternatives worth pricing against Avoca are ServiceTitan's own AI Voice Agent if you already run ServiceTitan, Upfirst if you are a smaller shop that wants self-serve pricing, and Smith.ai if you want a live person behind the AI.
| Alternative | Price as of November 2026 | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| ServiceTitan AI Voice Agent | Usage-based; no fixed price in ServiceTitan's FAQ | Residential ServiceTitan shops on The Essentials or The Works with Basic Phones or Phones Pro | ServiceTitan's FAQ says it cannot add call notes, summaries or transcripts to the booked job at launch |
| Upfirst | $24.95 to $299 a month for 30 to 600 calls | Small shops that want to set it up themselves | Field software sync is through Zapier, not native |
| Smith.ai | AI Receptionist free for 25 calls, Pro from $150 a month; human receptionists from $300 for 30 calls | Owners who want a live person on emergencies and upset callers | Human calls cost several times more than AI calls |
Our Upfirst review covers the small-shop option in detail. How is Avoca different from a regular AI answering service?
A regular AI answering service takes a message or books into a calendar; Avoca is built to book onto the dispatch board and to read the customer record first. That depth is what you pay a quoted price for.
For a shop with one office person, a calendar booking plus a text summary is often enough, because that person turns it into a job in a minute. For a contact center taking hundreds of calls a day, that minute per call adds up, and duplicate customer records cost real time. That is the gap Avoca is aimed at. If you sit between the two, test both on the same kind of calls: forward overflow to a self-serve service on a free trial, then ask Avoca to run the same call types on the demo.
Where Cortex fits
Cortex does not sell an answering service and does not resell Avoca. If Avoca books your calls well, keep it. What we build is the work around the call inside the software you already run: an agent with its own login in ServiceTitan that checks booked jobs for the right job type and membership, lists calls that ended without a booking for a CSR to call back, and drafts the follow-up. A person approves every outbound message and every record change. Our ServiceTitan AI integration guide explains how that connection works.
If you are deciding between Avoca, a cheaper AI service and your field software's built-in receptionist, the Free AI Operations Audit maps your call types and where each one should go before you sign anything.
